New exhibit brings high fashion to Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — A new exhibit has opened at the Two Rivers Gallery, utilizing traditional practices to create contemporary work.
The exhibition is called “New Age Warriors and Recent Works” and was created by Catherine Blackburn, a Terrace-based artist and designer. The first half of the exhibition features beaded warrior garments imagined for the Indigenous women of the future.
Blackburn pays homage to her grandmothers’s artistic and cultural influence, creating beaded portraits in her likeness and drawing inspiration from her beaded designs. In the second half of the exhibit, it plays host to Blackburn’s more recent pieces of work and features jewellery that draws from traditional methods and materials, like antlers and bear jaws.
