UNBC men’s soccer success shows in recruiting

PRINCE GEORGE- While the team hasn’t been on the field since late October, the UNBC men’s soccer program has been quite busy.

Since February the team has had commitments from 8 different prospects creating quite the buzz around campus.

“The amount of key recruits that have committed to us. It would be our best recruiting class to date,” said Loralyn Murdoch, the Director of Athletics and Recreation at UNBC.

This comes after a very successful soccer season for the men finishing with an 8-5-3 record.

On top of that Head Coach Steve Simonson was named Canada West Coach of the Year, and Michael Henman won Canada West Men’s Soccer Player of the Year, all leading to some major growth for the program.

Believe it or not, it was only in 2012 when the Timberwolves joined U-sports. While the program only continues to grow, both Simonson and Murdoch preach a similar message.

“We don’t want to just have one off-season. We want to try and get to a steady level where we’re competitive every year,” said Simonson.

The new and familiar faces of the UNBC Men’s Soccer Program will be on display later this summer when the teams start training at the end of July.
