PRINCE GEORGE — Back in March, Prince George was given the green light to pursue a proposal to become a hydrogen hub and today a conversation was had about the potential economic impacts of hydrogen.

The Province initially approached the City with the concept and put up $150,000 dollars from the BC Hydrogen Fund to conduct a case study report, pursue investor resources, and a summary report for next steps. Today a webinar was hosted to discuss the economic impacts of hydrogen not only in Prince George but throughout the province.

Councillor Ron Polillo believes that hydrogen is important initiative for not only the city but the region, to provide vital economic resources.

With shovels already in the ground on Hydra Energy’s hydrogen refuelling station, which is destined to be the world’s largest, those in the industry believe that the economic impacts from a hydrogen hub here in Prince George would be great, both by creating jobs and sustained economic development. The City will work with partners throughout the region to streamline project permitting, increase the adoption and knowledge of hydrogen among industry, including commercial producers and users, as well as the general public, and increase investment and economic development in the region.
