Wildfire east of Chetwynd now pegged at 1,246 hectares

PRINCE GEORGE — Despite nearing the end of the wildfire season, there are still hundreds of fires burning in B.C. right now and one wildfire of note near Chetwynd is of concern.

320 wildfires are currently burning in B.C., an abnormal statistic for this time of year. A number of areas are still under evacuation alert, including an area east of Chetwynd, due to a wildfire that was discovered on Sunday, October 8.

The Mount Wartenbe fire burning east of Chetwynd, is currently the only wildfire of note in the province, and the vast majority of fires burning in BC, are classified as being or under control. The fire is currently pegged at 1,246 hectares.
