PRINCE GEORGE – The fall season has only been around for a few weeks now and Christmas shows are already being rehearsed for. The beloved Nutcracker has started preparing for its shows at Vanier Hall with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra in the month of December.

“It used to be back in the day that we were putting the whole thing together on Thanksgiving long weekend. We don’t do that anymore because we really, after 30 or 32 years of doing this, you have a system, you have a way to do it and you have a lot of people that are returning so that the roles, they may be different for them, but they’re still really familiar for them.”

– Judy Russell, Producer/Artistic Director of the Nutcracker

The whole show is a team effort, and even though only a handful of people were rehearsing for the show this weekend, there are many more people to come.

“There’s over a hundred in the cast. And then there’s like 30 in the orchestra and then another probably 40 people dealing with all of the production needs.”

The Prince George performance has become such a staple at Christmas, that Judy Russell says it comes as naturally as putting up a Christmas tree.

“It’s a tradition.”

Tickets for the Nutcracker will be going on sale in the coming weeks.
