Boomers projected to exit the labour force by 2031

PRINCE GEORGE—Over the next decade approximately one million job openings are expected to be available across B.C., a majority of the positions being in the Healthcare and Technology sector. 65% of future opening will be replacing those leaving the workforce.

In the North Coast and Nechako region 15,300 job opening will become available by 2033. The biggest sector in the region will be retial trades with an estimated 1,300 openings. However, ports and freight transportation positions will have the most job growth with an estimated 590 new positions being opened by 2033.

75% of all job openings will require some level of post secondary education, with that the Province has announced the Find Your Path tool to provide future job seekers with the tools they need to enter the profession of their choice

“With nearly one million job openings on the horizon, it is essential that we are focused on building and fostering a skilled workforce for these in-demand jobs,” said Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation. “The Labour Market Outlook identifies key sectors, while the Find Your Path digital tool acts as a road map for British Columbians to get that job. We are investing in people and businesses by developing a skilled workforce that allows people to have good jobs in the communities they love.”
