PRINCE GEORGE – One of the province’s leading non-profit land conservation organizations aims to protect certain lands within our city limits. The Nature Trust of BC is working to raise $ 850,000 to protect 129.2 hectares of essential lands for wildlife, including a very popular local lake.

“it’s largely wetland habitat interspersed with some mature and old-growth forest for us. And we’re looking at acquisitions. There are a couple of things that are key to us. One of them is connectivity.”

Several years ago, the Nature Trust of BC protected 31 hectares surrounding Ferguson Lake north of the city. This area has become very popular with outdoor enthusiasts. The group aims to expand its protected area east of Ferguson Lake.

According to Nature Trust of BC, this 129.2 hectares has high ecological value. The property is on the fringe of city limits, and there is potential to grow north into crown land.
