PRINCE GEORGE – Council is forging ahead with hiring a consultant to look at a future plan for the downtown core.

The Civic Core Review encompasses the area around City Hall, including the Kopar Memorial Arena, the Conference and Civic Centre, the former site of the Four Seasons Leisure Pool and the Art Gallery.

A multi-platform survey was conducted earlier this year, which looked at the public’s wants for the downtown core. There were more than a thousand online responses, as well as input through a number of different venues, such as pop-up events at different events.

The top three “wishes” were identified as shops, housing, cafes, et cetera at 52%, followed by a performing arts centre at 44.4 percent and an ice arena at 29.4 percent.

Specifically the resolution reads: “Administration procures consultant services to prepare conceptual options and site design(s) for the Civic Core District Plan area that includes community consultation results and previously identified priorities including arts and culture uses and arenas .”

With members of the Spruce Kings and the Community Arts Council present in , Council moved ahead with that 0an.

It’s expected the consultant will return with several options for a future plan, of which Council will tackle at a future date.
