Prince George building sector sees drastic drop in 2023

PRINCE GEORGE — Construction permit value in the City of Prince George significantly dropped in 2023 compared to the previous two years.

According to a report from city staff to Prince George council, year-end totals show $155.7 million in construction permits were issued in 2023. That’s down from $251.3 million in 2022 and $237.2 million in 2021.

The number of permits fell to 395 in 2023. That’s down from 493 in 2022 and 460 in 2021.

Residential builds saw the most significant drop in value. According to the report, 319 permits had a value of $75.8 million in 2023. It’s less than half of the $152.3 million value from 373 permits in 2022 and down from $179.2 million from 388 permits in 2021.
