PRINCE GEORGE – It’s that time of year again. Coldsnap. It’s an event for all ages.

“We have stuff going on at noon, three and 5 p.m. on most days that are free,” explains Katherine Benny with the Prince George Folkfest Society. “Then we have ticketed evening performances here at Knox Performance Center and we have three late night shows at the Legion. So it’s a little bit of everything for everybody. And you might look at the poster and think, well, I don’t know any of the names on this poster, and that is totally fine. And in fact, that’s part of what Cold Snap is all about. It’s helping you discover your next favorite artist.”

So crews are inside at the Knox United Performance Centre gearing up for With Mama’s Broke, John Wort Hannam, and Reckless Burning! as the debut performances.

There is a series of concerts and workshops; from folk music to Celtic, and lessons to learn the art of story-telling and songwriting and kids events like Bookwork Boogie.

“We’ve got a variety this year. So our artists span the entirety of Canada, East to West. We have musicians joining us from Halifax, from PEI, we have folks from across western and central Canada, as well as numerous artists that are based here in Prince George.”

“There is a huge love for live music and in particular the type of events that we do here. And that’s like for myself, our staff or our volunteers, our board members, everyone is really invested in putting on these incredible shows that bring people together. And it’s just exhilarating and magical when it all when all the moving parts come together and you get to enjoy that show.”

Coldsnap takes place at a variety of venues around the downtown from Wednesday through to Sunday.
