Diocese of Prince George & Burnaby school settle $3.4M lawsuit
The lawyer for a man who accused a Catholic school teacher of sexual abuse in the 1990s says a lawsuit against the Diocese of Prince George and Burnaby’s St. Thomas Moore Collegiate has been settled for $3.4 million-dollars.
Sandra Kovacs says her client, who anonymously filed a lawsuit as John Doe, hopes the settlement will help empower other abuse survivors to speak out about their traumatic experience.
Kovacs says her law practice involves many survivors of institutional abuse, and cases involving the Catholic church have a common theme of secrecy that she says enables the mistreatment to continue.
