Prince George business receives national award

PRINCE GEORGE – Monogram Communications, a company founded in Prince George five years ago, has been named the “Small Agency of the Year – Gold” by the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) at its national conference.

“It’s such an honour to win an award like this so early in our existence as Monogram Communications. I started monogram as a sole proprietor, and then right at the beginning of 2020, moved it into a company. So we feel like we’re just celebrating our fifth year and have a phenomenal team in place,” said Monogram’s founder and CEO Alyson Gourley-Cramer.

Monogram Communications, as the name implies, is a communications company that has spread across the country, operating in locations like Vancouver, Calgary, and even Prince Edward Island. The company was founded during covid lockdowns, meaning employees had to work from home, but Gourley-Cramer says that has since become a part of the company’s identity and a reason it has seen the success it has.

“I didn’t want people to really be hindered by where they lived. I really wanted to work with the best people in our industry and provide them the flexibility to work in an area or in a situation that works better for them,” she said.

She describes her company and her team as “small, but mighty,” saying they are a tight knit group, despite the distance between some of the employees. While her company is now national, she says she wants to keep the identity of Prince George in her company, which she says is an identity of community, one-on-one connection, and personal working relationships.

“Everybody really works very hard. We’re very collaborative, we’re very supportive of one another, and one of our key goals and values is to invest in our team,” she said.

With that Prince George identity in mind, she also spoke on potential future growth. While many may think of company growth as hiring more and more employees and getting into more markets, Gourley-Cramer says this isn’t necessarily her top priority. Growth is possible, and perhaps even likely, but she doesn’t want that growth to take away from the success her company has seen so far.

“What we’re realizing right now is we have a phenomenal team. We’re able to still retain our quality of work and meet our client’s needs. So our goal isn’t necessarily to just grow for the sake of growing,” she said.

“We’re not a big city agency, and I think we’ve really found our niche working with people in smaller communities who want quality work with quality people,” she continued.

Monogram’s clients include the Canada Games, BC Housing, Telus, School District 57, and many more.
