PRINCE GEORGE – “Love Downtown”

That will be the theme with Downtown Prince George for this year.

The organization presented its annual report to Council last night.

“Things are getting better in the downtown,” noted Mayor Simon Yu.

However, it was noted during the presentation that, during 2024, members of the Downtown Clean Team cleared up 6,666 needles and 5,900 biohazards, predominantly in the downtown.

A new program that was launched this year, the bike valet program, was hailed as a new addition to services that enhanced the downtown.

“Bravo on the bike valet,” said Councillor Tim Bennett, which was a pilot program.

However, Councillor Cori Ramsay pointed out that more could be done.

“We have big events that are far and few between,” she said. “I would like to add to that.”

Council was also presented with a renewed strategy aimed at “providing a common vision for growth and development with private and public partners. The plan guides the City of Prince George and the Downtown Prince George BIA by defining an overall vision and key principles for downtown.”

The move of Tourism Prince George to the Canada Games Plaza was also identified as a boost, with the development of an all-year skating rink and various vendors.
