PRINCE GEORGE — The BC Coroners Service says 145 people in May and 147 in June died due to unregulated drug toxicity in the province.
That works out to 4.7 deaths per day in May and 4.9 per day in June. The majority of the people who died worked in trades, transport and as equipment operators and in sales and service.
Just under 80 per cent were male and between the ages of 30 and 59. Fentanyl continues to be the most common substance leading to death while the highest rates of deaths reported occurred in Northern Health at 44 per 100,000.
Through to the end of June, unregulated drug deaths had claimed 23 lives in Prince George
