CAMPBELL RIVER — A lengthy jail sentence was applied to a woman who pleaded guilty in connection to highly publicized drug busts in Campbell River.

Leah Marie Lewis, 57, was handed 13 years behind bars after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges in relation to drug busts last September at multiple Campbell River properties.

The guilty pleas were entered, and Lewis’ sentencing took place on Thursday, July 31, at the provincial court in Campbell River.

Campbell River RCMP reported several law enforcement resources, including its Major Crime Unit, raided two addresses on the Island Highway South in Campbell River, as well as on Nursery Rd., located on We Wai Kai First Nation on Sept. 25, 2024.

Police reported the seizure of 1.6 kilograms of fentanyl, representing potentially hundreds of thousands of lethal doses.

“Also seized was evidence that the fentanyl was being diluted, dyed, flavoured and molded into dinosaurs, lego bricks, and other shapes at one of the locations,” stated a Campbell River RCMP news release.

Substantial volumes of cocaine and methamphetamine were seized, as well as pills, cash, weapons, and other items associated with drug trafficking.

Numerous charges were dropped in exchange for the guilty pleas entered by Lewis.

At the time of sentencing, Lewis had 12 years and 15 days left to serve due to pretrial in-custody credit earned, according to the Campbell River court registry.

Lewis was also charged with multiple counts of breaching release conditions in Port Alberni in April, however, those charges were also stayed.

Lewis was also issued a mandatory lifetime firearms ban.

Fentanyl trafficking typically leads to federal jail sentences of at least two years behind bars in Canada.
