VICTORIA — Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Kiel Giddens has endorsed Kamloops Centre MLA Peter Milobar for leader of the Conservative Party of BC.

Giddens sits on the Public Accounts Committee with Milobar and says no one understands the budget and what he calls the NDP’s fiscal mess better than Milobar. In addition to that, Giddens says Milobar is a man of integrity who also understands the importance of northern B.C. to the province’s economy.

“I’ve had many conversations with him in the Legislature about the importance of northern B.C. and B.C.’s overall prosperity and Peter actually understands that we need someone who understands public policy, understands the current issues, and how to get our natural resources and our northern economy going because it’s good for the entire province.”

Five Conservative MLAs have endorsed Milobar – the others being MLAs Gavin Dew, Brennan Day, Ward Starmer, and Scott McInnis.

Eleven candidates have put their name forward for the top job. Other than Milobar, they are Bruce Banman, Harman Bhangu, Iain Black, Sheldon Clare, Caroline Elliott, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Yuri Fulmer, Warren Hamm, Darrell Jones, and Steve Kooner.

The winner will be announced on May 30.
