Spruce Kings’ 7-2 win secures 2-0 series lead

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings earned a 7-2 victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday night (April 18), securing a 2-0 playoff series lead.

The Chiefs opened up the scoreboard 7:37 into the first period with a power play goal from Right Winger Koby Francis.

Spruce Kings’ Right Defenseman Dracen Campbell and Left Winger Mason Loewen followed up with a pair of goals at 9:42 and 10:12 respectively.

In the second period, Chiefs Centre Sam Auld earned a short-handed goal, but the Spruce Kings responded with four goals of their own, taking a comfortable lead 6-2 lead heading into the third period.

Right Winger Michael Denney netted one more goal for the Spruce Kings in an otherwise scoreless third period to earn the 7-2 finish.

Spruce Kings’ Right Winger Ryan Wachtel earned first star of the game for his strong second period performance, getting two goals, one of which was earned during a power play, and one assist.

The Spruce Kings and Chiefs head to the Chilliwack Coliseum for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday (April 21) and Wednesday (April 22) .
