Simpson nets OT goal as Sirens spoil Sceptres’ chance to move into playoff spot
TORONTO — Allyson Simpson scored the game-winning goal with 2:16 left in overtime as the New York Sirens played spoiler in defeating the Toronto Sceptres 1-0 in Professional Women’s Hockey League action on Tuesday.
Kayle Osborne stopped 21 shots for New York (9-3-3-14), which came in three points back of the Sceptres and needed a regulation win to avoid being eliminated from playoff contention.
The overtime result ended the Sirens’ post-season hopes.
Raygan Kirk made 32 saves for Toronto (10-1-6-12), which remained one point behind the Ottawa Charge for the fourth and final playoff spot.
