PRINCE GEORGE – With under 72 hours between rounds after completing a tough seven game series against the Chilliwack Chiefs, the Prince George Spruce Kings were hard at work preparing for game one of the coastal conference finals against the Nanaimo Clippers. After playing fourteen games in twenty five days, the Kings have shown no signs of slowing down as they continue their longest playoff run since 2019.

“After a day off we just got the guys out doing a few touch drills just to kind of get the feet going and get the hands back into it. Obviously we are working on a few things that we’ve seen in video that we want to implement for the series against Nanaimo.” said Spruce Kings Associate Coach Brad Tobin.

After winning their last 5 games at home, the Kings hope to keep that streak alive as they have home ice advantage against Nanaimo. The Kings home ice advantage could prove to be even more valuable as they take on a Clippers team not accustomed to long travel. The two squads have met three times this season with the Kings taking all three including a 4-3 overtime thriller in early February. Despite the success against the Clippers, the Kings aren’t getting ahead of themselves as they understand that regular season results don’t always translate into playoff success.

“I think it’s just experience because we’ve been there with the traveling that we’ve done it over the course of the last two rounds. For us it’s nothing new and I think for Nanaimo they don’t travel as much as we do so I think that’s going to be a big factor going into this series for them. We just need to keep playing the way that we have been.” added Tobin.

In the locker room, the players continue to lean on one another as they pursue their first final since their championship run seven years ago. Even with minimal rest, the players cant wait for puck drop.

“There’s a lot of positive energy and we are a special group of guys. We’re excited to play another round and we feel really good. The home ice advantage is going to help us a lot.” said Spruce Kings defenseman Ozbej Rep.

The Prince George Spruce Kings host the Nanaimo Clippers in the coastal conference finals with game one at 7p.m Friday and game 2, Saturday at 6p.m at Kopar Memorial Arena.
