Kennel lock-in fundraiser returns to Humane Society

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Humane Society is excited to announce the return of its annual Kennel Lock-In fundraiser. Coming up on Saturday, May 9, volunteers will spend one hour in a kennel at the Humane Society’s Lansdowne location to raise funds.

“They have to raise bail in order to get broken out of their kennel, so we put them in one of the dog shelter kennels here at the shelter and they have to call their friends or family, text, email, do whatever they have to do in order to raise the amount of bail money that they’ve set for themselves in order to be broken out. This really allows people to get an opportunity to see what it’s like to be an animal in the shelter and in one of the kennels,” explained the Humane Society’s Events and Fund Development Manager Amanda Holmes.

The event goes from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Holmes adds from 11:00-2:00 there will also be a barbecue, face painting, and games, so she encourages everyone to get in on the fun and support the Humane Society’s efforts.

“The cost of medical care for these animals that come in is astronomical. We’re always getting babies, kittens that need to be bottle fed that require special formula, dogs that need special dietary food for their stomachs or. There’s so much going on that we need support for here, between the medical, food, shelter, keeping the lights on, everything costs a lot of money,” Holmes said.
