PRINCE GEORGE — Update: The School District has confirmed that the body of the 17-year-old student has been recovered and identified by family.

SD57 says it apologizes for any distress these messages and updates have caused. The meeting originally set to take place last night has been moved to June 22 online only.

Earlier: School District 57 Superintendent Jameel Aziz says the meeting will be rescheduled though the initial information they received about the body being recovered was inaccurate. He says he’s been told the search for the body continues.

We’ll update this story as soon as more information is provided.

Earlier: Tonight’s School District 57 School Board meeting in Prince George will be rescheduled after the body of a 17-year-old DP Todd student was discovered in Stony Lake today (June 9).

Superintendent Jameel Aziz says the decision was made out of respect for the student, family, friends, staff, school and greater community. No word when the rescheduled meeting will take place.

The student drowned Saturday night after the boat they were operating capsized. RCMP have yet to comment though the force’s Underwater Recovery Team was due to begin its search today.
