PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George Seeks Return of Retirement Bridging Program for Northwood Workers
Prince George City Council is formally asking the provincial government to bring back a program designed to help older forestry workers transition into retirement, arguing it could provide much-needed relief for employees affected by the pending closure of Canfor’s Northwood Pulp Mill.
Council has endorsed sending a letter to Labour Minister Jennifer Whiteside urging the Province of British Columbia to reinstate the Bridging to Retirement Program, which previously offered financial assistance to forestry workers aged 55 and older who lost their jobs due to changes in the forest sector.
