Broughton highlights resource development experience in Area D bid

PRINCE GEORGE — Scott Broughton says his experience in the mining industry and on corporate boards would help him serve residents if elected director for Electoral Area D in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.

Broughton is one of six candidates seeking the Area D seat in the upcoming local government election. He is the chief executive officer of Vitreo Minerals, the company behind the proposed Angus Project, a $300 million silica sand mine planned near Bear Lake, about 60 kilometres north of Prince George. The project recently received an environmental assessment certificate from the provincial government.

During a candidate interview, Broughton said he is not a newcomer to the region, having worked in northern B.C.’s mining and exploration sector for more than 30 years. He said he and his family moved to the Red Rock area in November 2025 after the company opened a downtown Prince George office last summer.

Broughton said a desire to help the region prepare for future economic growth motivated him to seek elected office.
