Valemount mayor charged with sexual assault

VALEMOUNT — Valemount Mayor Owen Torgerson has been charged with sexual assault and is taking a mandatory leave of absence.

The charge was laid October 13 and stems from an alleged incident on April 2, 2026. The complainant’s identity is protected by a publication ban.

CKPG reported in April that Torgerson had been arrested following allegations of sexual assault. At the time, he had not been charged and continued serving as mayor.

Torgerson says he “strenuously” maintains his innocence and intends to defend the charge through the courts.
