Future Of French Immersion To Be Discussed

PRINCE GEORGE- As the popularity of French Immersion programming grows in Prince George, so does the problem of where to send those students to high school. Duchess Park is the city’s only French high school, and it has been over capacity for several years. The Board of Education is looking at ways to combat that and plans to start consultations with parents, staff, and students in the near future. It’s looking for input on ideas to move the French Immersion program to PGSS, or to offer the program at two separate secondary schools. If a new location isn’t found, the board worries a cap may have to be put on enrollment.  “That’s a real concern if you have to do that,” said Vice Chair Trish Perrin,”you’d like to be able to put your child in the program you want to enrol them in.”  A draft of the survey can be viewed here. It’s expected to be sent out in the coming weeks. “This is absolutely the very beginning of this whole process and I’m very excited to hear back from people,” added Perrin.
