BC Government To Review Naming Standards For Identification

PRINCE GEORGE- It seems the Ministry of Health has listened to those who were concerned about their hyphenated names not being allowed on the new BC Services card. The new BC Services card requires British Columbians to re-enrol in MSP, tying it to the renewal of their driver’s licence. The deadline was supposed to be March 1, but it has been extended until March 1, 2019. People who have hyphenated last names were having trouble switching over to the new card, as the names weren’t registered in ICBC’s database. The BC government is allowing those with hyphenated last names to get non-photo BC Services Cards until the deadline next year. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Citizens’ Services will work with ICBC to review provincial naming standards for B.C. government-issued identification.
