SMITHERS — The B-C Wildfire Service says crews are responding to several wildfires caused by lightning in the northwest fire centre, all of which are less than one hectare in size.
The service says lightning caused 10 new fires in that region between Thursday morning and Monday afternoon, and the majority are now extinguished or under control.
The northwest fire centre experienced nearly 23,000 lightning strikes on Sunday alone, most of which the fire service says occurred where conditions are very dry.
According to the wildfire service, ground patrols are ongoing in order to watch for new fires in the area.
