9 new wildfires in the Northwest Fire Centre jurisdiction over weekend due to lightning

SMITHERS–Over the weekend the Northwest Fire Centre reported new wildfires caused by, lightning storms in its jurisdiction.

Since June 5, the BC Wildfire Service has responded to nine new fires, most of which were smaller than a hectare.

More lightning is expected throughout the Northwest Fire Centre today (July 8) and tomorrow. The BC WIldfire Service is conducting ongoing air and ground patrols to monitor the region for new wildfire starts.
