PRINCE GEORGE — As the search for two fugitives suspected in the murders of three people in northern B.C. continues to capture the imagination of people around the world, a local survivalist has weighed in on how much longer he thinks they’ll continue to elude police.

Port Alberni teens Bryer Schmegelsky and Kam McLeod have been on the run for over a week now, making their way from northern BC to possibly as far as northern Manitoba.

One person with an interest in this case is local survivalist Cliff “Wildman” Hammond. Wildman has taught wilderness survival for over 40 years and doubts they have what it takes to last a long time in the bush.

“They’ve got a little bit of gear. They’ve got their pistol still, more than likely. But they can’t use it. It’ll draw too much attention. They’ve probably got knives. They have some training but only through YouTube. And YouTube is a great resource but it doesn’t teach you the nuances. It doesn’t teach you how to do it when everything goes wrong.”
