QUESNEL — Quesnel RCMP are crediting the public with helping bring the case of a stolen car to a successful conclusion.

Police say two men were arrested on Tuesday (Dec.3) after they fled from police in a stolen 2007 Chrysler 300 that morning after reports of “suspicious activity in the downtown core.”

“When the police located the vehicle on Dragon Hill, the driver increased his speed and was driving erratically on North Star Road,” says Sgt. Richard Weseen. “The officers did not pursue the vehicle due to the risk to the public.”

He says while police were patrolling the area shortly thereafter, they located the car abandoned on an old road behind the city landfill.

“A perimeter was set up and the two males were found and arrested,” says Weseen. “One of the men was in possession of stolen property related to other thefts in the community.”

He says police were able to successfully crack the case in part because of the immediate call to police and the good description of the suspects, vehicle and direction of travel from the witness.

The driver of the car, 28-year-old Thor Huskins, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle over $5000, possession of stolen property over $5000, theft under $5000, mischief and possession of a controlled substance.

The passenger, 21-year-old Quade Herda, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5000 and theft under $5000 and mischief. The men made their first court appearance yesterday (Dec.4).
