PRINCE GEORGE — The first real dumping of snow has hit Prince George.

Residents waking up to nearly a dozen centimetres Friday morning, forcing out the shovels and snowblowers.

It’s also forced out City Crews. According to Council’s Snow and Ice Control Policy, if at least 12 centimetres of snow falls in 24 hours, the City aims to clear Priority Three routes within 72 hours after Priority One and Priority Two have been completed.

Those first priority routes include main arterial roads, downtown roads, priority hills, the hospital area, civic facility entrances, and priority parking lots and pathways.

Second priority routes, mean subsequent bus routes and commercial and industrial roads. The rest, including residential roads, land under priority three.

The City also pleads with drivers to be more responsible during clear-up efforts with parking as it can slow down operations and create hazards for other vehicles by creating windrows in the street.
