Jobless rate up in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — The year-over-year unemployment rate is up in Prince George.

Stats Can says it rose to 7.7 per cent in January – up from 6 per cent in January 2019. The number of people working last month was down one hundred people compared to the year before at 45,700.

The unemployment rate was 7.5 per cent in January in the Cariboo region, compared to 5.9 per cent in January 2019. There were 76,600 working in the Cariboo last month compared to 75,100 the year before.

A different story provincially though, where the unemployment rate dropped to 4.5 per cent in January compared to December 2019.
