OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government will spend up to $82 billion on measures to support the Canadian economy through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds include money for workers who must stay home and do not have access to paid sick leave, as well as for those who aren’t eligible for E-I and who are at risk of losing their jobs.

The government will also top up existing benefit programs, and create new pools of money for at-risk communities including the homeless and women and child at risk of violence and who need additional support.
