UPDATE: No new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health, 5 deaths in BC

VICTORIA— Another day with no new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health Region, however, provincially another 45 were announced during today’s (April 8) COVID-19 provincial update.

BC’s total of test positive cases is now at 1,336. Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced five new deaths in the province bringing the death total to 48 in BC.

Cases by health region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 615
  • Fraser Health: 487
  • Vancouver Island Health: 81
  • Interior Health: 130
  • Northern Health: 23

There are a total of 135 people hospitalized due to the novel coronavirus, with 61 in ICU. There are four people in hospital in the Northern Health Region today.

Dr. Henry touched on those returning home from overseas and on the Premier’s earlier announcement, that returning British Columbians are legally required to have a self-isolation plan. For those who are able to go straight home from the airport, she asks that we support each other, meaning purchasing groceries for neighbours or family members, while continuing to meet social distancing measures.

Those who do not have a self-isolation plan will be placed in self-isolation facilities provided by the government.

Regular check-ins will be conducted with those who have returned home from abroad in order to provide supports.

With the long weekend coming up, both Dr. Henry and Health Minister, Adrian Dix urged British Columbians to take part in any unneccessary travel or gatherings of any sort.

There have been a total of 838 recovered cases of COVID-19 in BC.
