Zero per cent property tax increase, agrees Village of Burns Lake Council

BURNS LAKE—The Village of Burns Lake has come to the decision of not increasing property taxes.

The decision was made at the April 21, 2020, Special Budget Meeting by the Village of Burns Lake Council, as an attempt to help residents amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Originally a 2 percent property tax increase was planned for the village.

The 2020 property tax deadline was also extended to to help “lessen the short-term financial burden for property owners,” said Funk.

The following support has been given to property owners in the Village of Burns Lake:

0 per cent increase to property taxes for 2020
Property taxes will be due on July 2, 2020; however, for those unable to pay at that time, a penalty of five per cent on the current outstanding balance will not be levied until October 2, 2020
A further penalty of five per cent will be applied on Dec.31, 2020 on the current year’s outstanding balance

Residential and commercial property owners who are able to pay their taxes by July 2, are encouraged to do so, as they will help support municipal cash flow projections.

Property owners can expect their property tax notices to arrive via the mail by the end of May.

Property taxes can be paid online or by cheque.
