City Council approves climate change mitigation plan
PRINCE GEORGE—City Council has approved a new strategy aimed at reducing the green house gas emissions in the City.
The 2020 Climate Change Mitigation Plan includes updated greenhouse gas emission inventories, reduction targets, and actions that can be taken to achieve these targets. The new plan will replace the City’s 2007 Energy Greenhouse Gas Management Plan, which only had targets for the City up until 2012.
“The 2020 Climate Change Mitigation Plan sets out several short, medium, and long-term goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions both from City government-related activities and for the community as a whole.”— Andrea Byrne, Environmental Coordinator, City of PG
The new targets include an 80 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from levels measured in 2017 for both the City and community by 2050.
