RCMP receive 257 reports in seven days

TERRACE–RCMP received and responded to 257 reports over a seven day period.

Terrace RCMP responded to the calls from May 29 to Thursday, June 4.

On Monday, June 1, when a police officer was on his way to a call when an intoxicated woman ran out onto the street in front of his police cruiser. The officer arrested the woman, for her safety, and she began to scream.

As the officer placed the woman in his vehicle, a man known to the woman attempted to intervene and began yelling for help while trying to stop traffic. The police officer attempted to reposition his vehicle out of traffic, but failed as the man jumped on the hood while trying to film the interaction. Back up arrived soon after and both the man and woman were taken into custody.

On the evening of Tuesday, June 2 RCMP observed a vehicle turning fast out of a parking lot near Keith Ave. and Kalum Street. in Terrace, RCMP stopped the vehicle nearby, and after speaking with the driver attempted to conduct a roadside breath test. After several failed attempts to get the female driver to cooperate, police issued the driver a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound for refusing to provide a breath test. Officers ran a police check on the woman and found that she had already been prohibited from driving and subsequently arrested her, releasing her with a court date.

Several individuals were taken to the Terrace RCMP detachment to sober up in cells for disturbance related offences. Terrace RCMP say there was a total of six people from Monday through Thursday sobering up in their detachment.
