Vanderhoof businesses come together to celebrate Nechako Valley Students graduation

VANDERHOOF—Graduations are memorable, and this year even more so, as students across the province graduate amidst a pandemic.

In Vanderhoof, a group of parents has asked businesses in the district municipality’s downtown to dress up their store windows in honour of the Nechako Valley Secondary School grad class of 2020.

“Our entire school district congratulates each of our 2020 graduates and although school graduation events will look different from other years, we are pleased that each of our high schools has created a unique and safe plan to recognize graduates on this significant milestone.”—Manu Madhok, Superintendent, SD91

Bobbi Bradley, owner of NAPA Associate, Vanderhoof, says that her businesses windows are all dressed up in preparation for the weekend, and mentions that she’s seen others following suit.

But Bradley isn’t stopping there.

According to Bradley, Tim Horton’s, Tasty Tandoori, and Cozy Corner Pizza will have free snacks for the grads.

She says that Wallace Photo Studios is setting up a photo-op display at Riverside Park. Streamline Signs, owned by Wayne Funk, will have photos of the graduates running on a loop on the sign found on Hwy.16.

Current pandemic restrictions have led to the cancellation of the grad classes’ Dry Grad, and alterations to their graduation ceremony, something Bradley says the high school students were looking forward to. “Is it the Grad they wanted,no,” says Bradley, adding that grad is a big deal in Vanderhoof and that the community wanted to do something to help celebrate the 13 years of school students have endured.

“They deserve this weekend, they have earned it,” said Bradley.
