Category 2 and 3 open fires permitted

Jun 19, 2020 | 4:00 AM

PRINCE GEORGE–Category two and three open fires, as well as Resource Management Open Fires, will be permitted throughout the Prince George Fire Centre.

According to the B.C. Wildfire Service, the open burn prohibitions were rescinded as of yesterday (June 18) at noon. The prohibitions had been in place province-wide since mid-April to reduce demands on fire fighting resources and to protect the health and safety of the public and the B.C. Wildfire Service staff amidst the pandemic.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says that since the beginning of June, much of the province has received significant rain, therefore decreasing the risk for potential wildfires.

“While the BC Wildfire Service has developed protocols for staff to safely respond to wildfires and reduce the risk from COVID-19, we ask for the public’s assistance to reduce the likelihood of a forest fire. It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that burning is done in a safe manner in accordance with regulations. Before lighting any fire, it is advised to check with your local governments to see if any local burning restrictions are in place.”–Release from BC Wildfire Service
