Mackenzie residents to rally against forestry curtailments
MACKENZIE — Mackenzie residents will rally for the town’s survival Tuesday.
British Columbia and Alberta Area Director for Unifor Andrea Macbride points out that all of the sawmills in town are curtailed and the one mill left running giving the town some hope is scheduled to be indefinitely curtailed by the first week of August.
“So, Unifor is supporting the rally which has been organized by the residents of Mackenzie,” she told CKPG Today. “We want to support this. Frankly, the community is at stake here. With the two sawmills down and our pulpmill set for curtailment (Mackenzie Pulp), these are the big industries of this town without the ability to know if and when they’re coming back.”
