20 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 2 deaths

VICTORIA— 20 new cases of COVID-19 and two deaths were reported in today’s (June 25) COVID-19 daily update.

Out of the 20 one is an epidemiologically linked one. No new cases of the virus were reported in Northern B.C., the north has remained at 65 test positive cases for over two weeks now.

Cases by Health Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 970
  • Fraser Health: 1,504
  • Vancouver Island Health: 131
  • Interior Health: 199
  • Northern Health: 65

The two new deaths took place at long-term care facilities in the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions.

Today’s 20 additional cases brings B.C.’s total of test positive cases to 2,869, of those 179 are active; 15 people are in hospital with seven in ICU.

No new outbreaks in health-care or community were reported today. We remain at seven outbreaks in the health-care system and two community outbreaks.

One of today’s new cases is a teacher, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, saying that the Provincial Health Office was prepared for this kind of situation since the beginning of the voluntary return to school for students across the province. All close contacts of the individual have been made aware, no students were close contacts.This is the second reported case of a teacher in the education sector becoming infected with COVID-19.
