Despite recent rainfall B.C. Wildfire Service reminds residents of possible fire risk this weekend

PRINCE GEORGE–Environment Canada is calling for quite the sun-filled weekend, something we haven’t seen in quite the while, and the B.C. Wildfire Service is reminding residents to be safe despite recent rainfall.

“Although we have received a significant amount of precipitation this summer, it doesn’t take much for the fine surface fuels to dry out,” says Rachelle Winsor, Information Officer for the Prince George Fire Centre.

“As we head into a warmer trend for this upcoming weekend, the BC Wildfire Service would like to remind the public to adhere to the campfire and open burning regulations, and to check with their local municipality before lighting any fire, as the current restrictions vary across the province.” –Rachelle Winsor, Information Officer, Prince George Fire Centre

Friday through Sunday we will see temperatures in the low to mid 20’s in Prince George and neighbouring communities.

“We would also like to thank everyone for their continued support, as the number of human-caused wildfires we have seen this year are far less than in previous years,” said Winsor. To date there have been 43 fires in the Prince George Fire Centre, compared to 107 fires from the beginning of 2019 to this time last year.
