PRINCE GEORGE — If you’ve noticed the smoke and haze in the air this afternoon in Prince George, Vanderhoof and Fort St. James, it’s not due to a local wildfire.

Rather the Prince George Fire Centre says it can likely be attributed to the southern air mass flowing through the province, that is bringing smoke north from the wildfires that are currently burning in the US.

The fire centre says the smoke can also be attributed to the wildfires that are currently burning in Siberia. The smoke is carried in on the jet stream and is anticipated to linger.

The Prince George Fire Centre says they’ve received a number of calls on the smoke and haze today.
