Masich opens “dawn ’til dusk”

PRINCE GEORGE – Masich Place stadium is open to the public from dawn ’til dusk, as was the wish of Council in early July. But it comes at a cost. It will take four staff members to monitor it over that period. A major source of concern for Councillor Cori Ramsay Monday night.

“We have employees in the City who do work similar to the work that’s already being done and why don’t we widen the umbrella so we can do spot checks that are an appropriate level of spot checks rather than paying four full-time employees to be there?”

But that argument was countered by one that suggests Masich Place stadium is a premiere facility now, not that same facility that allowed for unchecked usage. But, again, that raised the hackles of Councillor Ramsay.

“Honestly, to m it feels like we’re babysitting the facility until the 2022 BC Summer Games,” she notes.

“I don’t know that we’re babysitting the facility,” countered Mayor Lyn Hall. “I think that facility has had huge upgrades. It’s state-of-the-art.”

In the end, Councillors Cori Ramsay and Kyle Sampson voted against accepting the report as was presented on Monday night, although it does mean the facility will be open from dawn until dusk. As requested.
