QUESNEL— Cariboo residents can head online to view the preliminary design for the proposed Quesnel North-South Interconnector the Province has planned.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure people who live and work in Quesnel have been asking for a solution to traffic issues, especially commercial trucks travelling into the downtown core and creating traffic snarls.

The North-South Interconnector was recommended as a long-term future priority in the 2018 Quesnel Transportation Study. After three open houses were conducted with members of the community, the interconnector was the preferred option with more than 80 per cent support.

The proposed route would help remove heavy-truck traffic from Hwy.97 in the downtown core by allowing commercial trucks to bypass it. The projected route also includes two new structures to replace the Quesnel River Bridge and the Quesnel Rail Crossing Bridge.
