Suspects named in Bellos Street shooting and police pursuit

PRINCE GEORGE — Charges have been approved against the three suspects police allege were involved in yesterday’s (Oct.8) targeted shooting and vehicle chase.

At 11:37 a.m. yesterday, local Mounties received reports of shots fired on Bellos Street. Witnesses reported that occupants in a vehicle pulled up to a specific home, opened fire, and fled seconds later.

“Multiple frontline officers were immediately directed towards the scene. While en route, the suspect vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed away from the scene,” says Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass.

“Due to a high level of concern for public safety, officers engaged in a brief pursuit. The suspect vehicle collided with a curb and through a fence, before coming to a stop in the front yard of a home at the corner of 10th Avenue and McBride Crescent.”

The three suspects then fled on foot. Two of them were arrested almost immediately after fleeing the vehicle and about five minutes after the original shots fired call to police. The third suspect was located by a police dog a few minutes later. He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor bite wounds.

Two firearms were seized in close proximity to the vehicle. Duchess Park Secondary, DP Todd Secondary and Heritage Elementary all activated Hold & Secure emergency measures and recalled students back into school during the lunch hour.

Police say the incident was targeted and directly related to the ongoing conflict between rival drug trafficking groups.

This is the third shooting incident on Bellos Street in less than three weeks and was the second yesterday.

Prince George RCMP say that evidence gathered yesterday indicates that a suspect shot at police in pursuit, striking the windshield of a police cruiser. The officer was uninjured.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved the following charges against 34-year-old Kenneth Ricardo Munroe of Prince George:

· Possession of a firearm without authorization

· Discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life (2 counts)

· Resist or wilfully obstruct peace officers in the execution of their duty

The BC Prosecution Service has approved the following charges against 31-year-old Bradley Andre Ouelette of Prince George:

· Possession of a firearm without authorization

· Discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life (2 counts)

· Resist or wilfully obstruct peace officers in the execution of their duty

· Possession of a firearm while prohibited

· Fail to comply with probation

· Fail to comply with a release order

The BC Prosecution Service has approved the following charges against 40-year-old Eric Vern West of Prince George:

· Possession of a firearm without authorization

· Discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life (2 counts)

· Resist or wilfully obstruct peace officers in the execution of their duty

· Possession of a firearm while prohibited

· Fail to stop for police

· Dangerous operation of a conveyance

All three were held in custody overnight and will appear in court today.
