PRINCE GEORGE—One man was taken into custody after a commercial break and enter targeting firearms earlier this morning (Oct.21).

Just after midnight in the early morning hours of Oct.21 local RCMP received a report of a commercial Break and Enter to a large retail store on Domano Blvd.

Prince George RCMP say a Police Dog Service team was first on the scene and discovered damage to the front doors of the business. The officer could see a suspect attempting to break into a secured area designated for firearms storage. The suspect fled through the store, eventually exiting through the front doors, where he was taken into custody.

A search of the store determined that the suspect acted alone; significant damage to the store was also found.

The 26-year-old suspect was in possession of a hunting knife and axe and was wearing clothing from the store. The B.C. Prosecution Service has charged Skyler Joseph Jakesta with the following:

  • Break & Enter to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Break & Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Break & Enter with Intent to Steal Firearms
  • Possession of Break-in Instruments
  • Fail to Comply with Probation

Jakesta recently moved to Prince George and is known to local RCMP, as well as other northern detachments. Jakesta will appear in court today (Oct.21).
