RCMP watchdog investigates death of man while in custody at local Correctional Centre

SURREY–The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating an incident in Prince George after the death of a man while in custody at a Correctional Centre.

A release by the IIO says that on October 3, 2020, a man, reportedly while in custody at the local Correctional Facility in Prince George, died, following contact with members of the RCMP.

The IIO is investigating to determine what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the man’s death. The B.C. Coroners Service is also conducting an independent investigation to determine the circumstances of his death.
