PRINCE GEORGE – For Jake and Linkin, it originally started as a way for them to save up for brand new bikes.

But as soon as the two young teenage brothers started posting their ‘I love PG’ mugs to social media, their business began to gain some traction with local residents.

“We were just playing off of the I heart New York. I guess we just decided to make I heart PG mugs, and now they’re in a bunch of stores,” said Linkin.

Both they and their mother have been born and raised in Prince George, playing into their desire to celebrate the place they call home.

The two have been heavily into the world of being entrepreneurs since staring their business called Northern Novelties, reaching out to several people for help with marketing in order to get their mugs out there on social media.

Their mom has been amazed at their dedication.

“They really wanted these mountain bikes and I had said that I would pay for half,” explained the boy’s mother Jen. “They were super expensive but said that I would pay for half, and said they would have to figure it out. So they were doing shovelling and raking leaves, and as the spring and summer progressed, (their business) really helped them with a lot of life skills.”

And with how business is going, it’s only a matter of time before they’ll be supporting the family household.

“Every day they’re getting more and more orders. Something that was more of a learning experience during the whole pandemic has turned into something that’s viable,” said Jen. “It’s teaching them more than just ‘I’m making a mug and getting some money’. And in the end, yeah, maybe they will take care of me.”
