Super Finn: 11-year-old receives praise for heroic efforts following vehicle rollover

PRINCE GEORGE – Super Finn.

“It’s kind of corny, but I like it,” Finn Goddard said about the proposed superhero name.

The 11-year-old has been getting praise on social media after his mother, Kristi Goddard, shared the story of her son’s heroic efforts this past weekend after their family was involved in a vehicle rollover just south of Hixon.

A wrong turn turned into a disaster for the Goddard family over the weekend. Travelling back home to their farm east of Prince George on Saturday (October 24, 2020), they hit a hairpin turn.

“I knew we were going to roll. We all kind of braced, which was good,” explained his mom. “We weren’t going really fast, maybe 50 km/h if that. It did happen really slow, like drivers side, roof, and then onto the passenger side. The first thing that I said was I screamed for the boys, Finn and Oliver. They both answered, and that was when Finn put on his superhero cape.”

Kristi is still amazed and in disbelief from what then happened.

It was from there that Finn heroically managed to get each of his family members out of the flipped pickup.

“It was scary,” admitted Finn of the experience. “It felt like it was in slow motion and I just knew to stay calm because if one person is calm then everybody goes to being calm. Then I tried to help everyone out.”

“My husband couldn’t get out and I was pressed up against the passenger side. There was glass everywhere, airbags and stuff, and obviously, everything flew around in the truck,” said Kristi, recollecting what she remembered from the experience on Saturday.

“And then Finn was just saying ‘you can do this mom. you’ve got this. you’ve gotta get out.’ I was hyperventilating. Just hearing his little voice was enough to snap me out of it.”

The truck was a complete write-off for the family as a result of the crash.

Bumped and bruised, the family eventually returned home where Kristi shared the story of her son’s heroic efforts to social media, where it’s been shared over 14-hundred times.

“I just wanted him to be recognized for that heroic act,” said Finn’s mom. “There are not many 11-year-olds that would be able to handle the pressure of that. He got his brother out first, and that was the first thing. We always tell him, if there’s a house fire or something, help your brother first. Like, don’t worry about us, we’ve got it. He did exactly what he was supposed to do, and then helped us and opened up a jammed up door.”
